Demetrius Bogan of Peekskill was arrested Friday following an exhaustive three-week investigation into the July 13 murder of Khalil Lyons, 22, of the Bronx, said Peekskill Chief of Police Don Halmy.
Police discovered Lyons lying on the ground in the area of 1245 Park St. when responding to a call for shots fired, Halmy said.
He was transported to New York-Presbyterian Hudson Valley Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
A male suspect was reported to have been observed fleeing the scene after arguing with the victim, he said.
The chief praised the work of all the officers who worked on the case, especially Det. Sgt. Jack Galusha and the detectives under his charge who worked tirelessly to make this arrest happen, he said.
He also thanked the Westchester County Department of Public Safety and the New York State Police who both sent officers to assist immediately after this crime was reported, as well as the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office who worked alongside this department during the investigation.
Bogan is being held at the Westchester County Jail.
